Svetlogorsk District of Gomel Oblast and the city of Baoding of China's Hebei Province signed a twinning agreement during a web-based roundtable on cooperation between Gomel Oblast and the Chinese Province of Hebei, BelTA has learned.
The document was signed by Chairman of the Svetlogorsk District Executive Committee Dmitry Aleinikov and Baoding Mayor Yan Jihong.
The agreement provides for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields: economy, trade and humanitarian affairs.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China Yuri Senko noted that the agreement is an important step. "It opens up new opportunities for the parties. Moreover, the necessary preparatory work has already been carried out," the ambassador said. The diplomat called on the parties to implement the agreements as fast as possible and to put all arrangements into practice.
Baoding Mayor Yan Jihong sent greetings on behalf of the city's administration and 10-million population. She stressed the readiness to discuss strategic partnership and expressed confidence that the friendship between China and Belarus will only grow stronger.
Svetlogorsk is convinced that the agreement will contribute to the expansion of interregional ties between Belarus and China. Svetlogorsk District is an industrial center, home to the pulp and paper, chemical and oil refining enterprises. The district has implemented the investment projects with the participation of Chinese capital. For example, a sulfate bleached pulp plant launched in 2020 was built using the loans from the Export-Import Bank of China.
Baoding became the first Chinese partner of Svetlogorsk. The district is committed to promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in various industries.
During the roundtable, agreements were also signed between Belarusian and Chinese companies in trade and logistics.
